Beer Bread

This is my favorite time of the year.  There is a chill in the air and everywhere you dine soup is on the menu.  In my opinion, with soup there must be bread.  It can be in any form, a bread stick, a hearty piece of sourdough, a biscuit or even cornbread which is perfect when done right.

Well, now that my kids are older and there is no longer the need to chase them around the house; and my hockey mom days of getting up at the crack of dawn and putting on that taxicab hat have come to a halt, My Saturday and Sunday mornings have gone from hectic to somewhat subdued.   Well that was until my obsession with baking kicked in.  Even though I love to cook, baking has never interested me.  But, this month a bread obsession has become my new hobby.  I cannot believe that in all these years I had never attempted to bake a loaf of bread until now.  That is until Pinterest became part of my life.  The pictures are what do it for me! The soups….the bread…Oh my!!!

So, to date I have experimented with several different bread recipes and this one by far was the easiest.  So easy, I just had to share.  If you have a bottle of beer, some flour, sugar and any herbs or cheese for flavoring, you have Beer bread.  This is what I used:

Beer bread ingredients

3 Cups All Purpose Flour

1 Bottle (12 oz) of Beer (I used an IPA)

1/2 Cup Cane Sugar

1 Cup of Pecorino Romano Grated Cheese (any cheese will do)

Melted Butter for Basting.

** Any of your favorite herbs can be added

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Mix all of the ingredients until dough becomes sticky.

Place into greased loaf pan and bake for 1 hour.  During the last five minutes brush the top of the loaf with melted butter.  That’s it!

Mini bear breads

I made mine in individual paper baking cups for an easy grab and go.  I hate all those crumbs on the counter after slicing any kind of bread.

I hope you try to make bread at least once, there really is nothing better than warm bread straight out of the oven!

Enjoy!
